Get to Know Yourself This Summer

Get to Know Yourself This Summer

Summer in Australia is more than just warm days at the beach—it’s a season of renewal, exploration, and growth. What better time to turn your attention inward and get to know yourself on a deeper level? Whether you’re looking to enhance your emotional well-being, reconnect with your inner voice, or simply take a breather from life’s daily rush, these simple practices can help you on your wellness journey.

Why Knowing Yourself Matters

Understanding yourself isn’t just some abstract idea. It’s a tool that helps you make better decisions, set meaningful goals, and live a life that aligns with your values. Plus, it can improve your relationships, lower stress, and boost overall happiness. Best of all? Getting to know yourself doesn’t require large investments of time or money—just a bit of intention.

3 Little Ways to Discover the Real You

 1. Try Mindful Meditation

Pull up a cushion and get comfy. Meditation isn’t about silencing your thoughts (good luck with that!) It’s about noticing them without judgment. Start with just 5 minutes a day. Apps like Insight Timer or Smiling Mind can guide you along, no matter your experience level.

By focusing on your breathing and becoming aware of your thoughts, you’ll uncover patterns or ideas you might not have noticed in the hustle and bustle of daily life. Meditation creates the mental space to listen to yourself. It’s like catching up with an old friend—except the friend is you.

2. Move Your Body, Free Your Mind

Counsellors often recommend exercise for managing stress—and for good reason. But physical activity isn’t just about staying fit; it’s a fantastic way to connect with what you’re feeling. A brisk walk along the coastline or a yoga session at sunset can do wonders for clearing your head.

Pay attention to how you feel during and after exercise. What emotions bubble up? What thoughts stick around? Physical movement doesn’t just release endorphins—it quietens the mental chatter, making it easier to connect with your authentic self.

3. Journal Your Journey

Have you tried putting pen to paper lately? Journalling is one of the most direct pathways to self-awareness. You don’t need to be a skilled writer, nor does your journal have to be beautifully presented (doodles and messy handwriting are 100% allowed!).

Take just 10 minutes a day to capture your thoughts. You can start with simple prompts like:

  • What made me smile today?
  • What’s currently weighing on my mind?
  • What do I want more—or less—of in my life?

Over time, your entries will begin to reveal patterns, priorities, and passions, helping you understand yourself at a deeper level.

Small Steps, Big Changes

There’s no need to overhaul your life overnight or get everything figured out in a single season. Even small steps—like quiet moments of meditation or a quick entry in your journal—can make a big difference over time.

If you’re ready to take it up a notch, consider joining us at the EveryWoman Expo this summer for workshops on mindfulness, yoga sessions, or one-on-one chats with expert counsellors. It’s the perfect environment to nurture your well-being, connect with like-minded souls, and, most importantly, meet yourself.

You don’t have to do it all—but you do deserve this time for you.
